Nimk opens exhibition on the interactions of extraterrestrial light with the atmosphere and biosphere. Both the messenger and the message, both particle and wave, extraterrestrial light carries information about the entire universe into the eye of the beholder. As it unfolds into all the diverse structures of matter, eventually breathing life into some of them, light shapes its environment, and in turn, the environment reshapes light. Mastering this two-way tuning process can lead to ‘enlightenment’, as exemplified by recent breakthroughs in artificial photosynthesis, a nearly lossless translation of sunlight into bio-solar fuel. Earthbound solar, galactic and interstellar radiation can also be aesthetically harnessed to procure the optimal fuel for the human imagination. The Source reveals extraterrestrial light as an inexhaustible muse as well as a wellspring of clean energy for Earth’s inhabitants. Part of StudioLab, an EU art-science initiative, The Source will open with a presentation about artificial photosynthesis by biophysicist, Raoul Frese (VU, Amsterdam). Researching photosynthesis at the supramolecular level, Frese implements photosynthetic bio-polymers in hybrid solar cells and mimics photosynthesis using synthetic molecular compounds. “Every 90 minutes, the sun radiates an amount of energy equal to the annual consumption of the world population. By the process of photosynthesis, plants, algae and certain bacterial species have mastered the direct utilization of this energy to power their metabolism. ArtHERE Silicon Valley is an online platform and website for crowd-sourced urban revitalization through the matching of art and place, launching as part of the 2012 ZERO1 Biennial. Through an open call process, we are now inviting artists to submit proposals for a series of spaces in downtown San Jose’s SoFA District – the hub of the 2012 ZERO1 Biennial. The goal is to help the Silicon Valley community and artists activate empty and under-utilized urban spaces. Even if you don’t submit a proposal yourself, we’d love for you to check out the site, read through the proposals, and “like” your favorites.

Labmovel leva ao centro de São Paulo o projeto de realidade aumentada Narrative Navigation. Trata-se de um projeto colaborativo de Sander Veenhof e Pixel, no qual podemos criar narrativas sobre pontos da cidade com o uso de um celular, misturando dados históricos e ficção. O evento ocorreu na Praça Dom José Gaspar, atrás da Biblioteca Mário de Andrade no último domingo (15).

ZERO1 and our community partners are sponsoring a series of calls for participation in the 2012 ZERO1 Biennial, Seeking Silicon Valley. Proposals related to activating underutilized spaces in downtown San Jose’s SoFA District can be submitted by any artist through ArtHERE, a community website and open call platform that matches art proposals with empty spaces. The ZERO1 Emerging Artist Network is a series of calls for California-based emerging artists for projects to be featured in the weekend-long outdoor exhibition during the opening weekend of the ZERO1 Biennial. O PROJETO MAM 4X1, de março foca na tecnologia enquanto meio e fonte de influências nos processos criativos contemporâneos. São três palestras: a primeira versa sobre arte e tecnologia, com referências históricas do modernismo e reflexões sobre as práticas artísticas midiáticas da atualidade; a segunda, sobre arquitetura, explora o uso das tecnologias emergentes e métodos dinâmicos e flexíveis, que abraçam as demandas contemporâneas do social; e a terceira sobre as possibilidades inovadoras do design, na criação de interfaces que operam na intersecção de espaços on e off-line, considerando as necessidades do indivíduo em rede. O projeto se encerra com o evento MOSTRA TUDO, onde os três palestrantes vão apresentar uma playlist pessoal de links da internet. A arquitetura da web é desenhada de maneira a fazer com que nos relacionemos com aqueles que nos são semelhantes. MOSTRA TUDO quebra essa arquitetura, criando novas associações.
